Decking the stately halls with holly and baubles
The magnificent 18th Century house is being adorned with thousands of baubles, garlands, candles and wreaths ahead of the house opening for its festive season on Saturday.
A spokeswoman for Castle Howard said: “Its probably the busiest time of year for us.

Hide Ad“The house is being decorated in a traditional way,” she added.
Visitors will be able to approach the house along the Christmas tree-lined drive. Once inside they will be greeted by interiors lit by candle and firelight, winter garlands, floral arrangements, dressed trees and a display of traditional Howard family twigs adorned with decorations.
Each year, Castle Howard is transformed when the family decorate the house for the festive season.
New for 2014 the Garden Hall will be decorated with a traditional toy twig, complete with Nutcracker figures and family toys. Here visitors will also discover a large doll’s house used by the Howard family’s children.
There is also a chance to pick up a Christmas gift and Castle Howard at Christmas events also include live music performances daily and take place between Saturday and Sunday December 21.
