Picture special: Yorkshire RAF regiment exercises highest honour in town to celebrate its 75th anniversary

RAF Regiment personnel based at RAF Leeming have paraded through the historic North Yorkshire market town of Richmond to mark the corps' 75th anniversary.

To celebrate the milestone, permission was granted by Richmond Town Council for the Royal Air Force men and women to exercise their Freedom of the Town rights yesterday morning.

During an impressive display, personnel from 2 Force Protection Wing, incorporating 34 Squadron of the RAF Regiment, took part in full military dress and accompanied by the regiment’s band.

The parade consisted of two armed flights of 30 airmen, the Colour Party of the RAF Regiment, the Freedom of Richmond Sword Party and the standard of the 34 Squadron, and followed a route along Victoria Road and into the Market Square where a salute was taken by the Mayor of Richmond, Coun Russell Lord and Force Protection Force Commander, Air Commodore Frank Clifford.

The proceedings were marked with a flypast by a Hawk T1 aircraft of the 100 Squadron before the parade continued around the market square and past the dais for a final salute. The procession concluded at the gates to Richmond Castle.
