Degree of success for athlete

Heptathlete Jessica Ennis was awarded an honorary degree in her home city today.

The 23-year-old world champion was given the LittD degree from the University of Sheffield, where in 2007 she also completed a degree in psychology, in recognition of her sporting talents. The new qualification means Ennis, who won gold in the World Athletics Championships in Berlin in August, is now a doctor of literature.

Wearing the university's traditional red graduation robe with green trim, she took to the stage at the university's Octagon Centre in Sheffield to accept her honorary degree.
