Delay over controversial turbine plan

Councillors have deferred making a decision on a 50ft wind turbine in the green belt near Sheffield, which opponents claim will be a blot on the landscape.

The turbine, which would have generated electricity for Garfield House Farm, Midhopestones, sparked objections from Angela Smith MP for Penistone and Stocksbridge, Bradfield Parish Council, as well as several residents, who felt it would spoil views up and down the valley.

The application was deferred at a meeting of councillors held at the Town Hall in Barnsley yesterday.

Planners had recommended refusal saying its relative isolation and exposed position would “bring about visual harm”.

The application was deferred to provide an opportunity for planning officers and the applicant and agent to hold further discussions on the possible relocation of the mast to potential alternative sites.
