Delius link celebrated

A CONCERT in Scarborough this month will pay tribute to composer Frederick Delius’s links to the town as well as marking the first performance in the UK of a 1937 work by William Grant Still.

The event, at 7.30pm at the Methodist Central Hall, in Queen Street, on May 19, will mark the 150th anniversary of Yorkshire-born composer Frederick Delius by performing his Brigg Fair.

Shaun Matthew will then swap his conductor’s baton for his tuba and perform as soloist in Vaughan Williams’s Tuba Concerto before a premiere performance of William Grant Still’s Symphony No.2, Song of a New Race. Grant Still, an Afro-American composer, is well known in the USA for his blues-influenced melodies. Tickets are available from www.scarborough-orchestra.co.uk
