Designs on success

SHIRT retailer Hawes & Curtis has announced the winner of its Design a Shirt competition for third year fashion undergraduates from Leeds College of Art and Design.

The winner, Sophie Andrews, 22, of Kendal, will see her design produced and sold in Leeds’ Victoria Quarter store as part of the shirt maker’s summer 2011 collection.

She beat 30 other undergraduates. Shoppers voted for their favourite from six finalists.

Hawes & Curtis area manager Sarah Meese said: “The standard of the competition was extremely high.”

Sophie said: “It means so much to me that my work has been recognised by industry professionals and will actually be sold as part of the Hawes & Curtis summer range.

“To be able to put in my portfolio the design of a shirt that has been produced and sold in a high street retailer is invaluable.”
