Police had initially believed he was 85 years old, but following a formal identification procedure the force said that it could confirm he was 80.

In an update, the force said that a murder investigation had been launched and teams were continuing to work to establish the circumstances of Mr Fish’s death.

A 28-year-old woman arrested in connection with his death remains in police custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Stewart Miller, who is leading the investigation, said: “We believe this to have been an isolated incident, and there is no risk to the wider public. The woman we have arrested was known to Mr Fish.

“We have specialist officers in place to support Mr Fish’s family and our thoughts are with them at this very difficult time.”
