Devastated family in shock over death of toddler hit by milk float

THIS is the first picture of a little girl who died when she was hit by a milk float.

Toddler Zoya Hussain, who was just 22 months old, was outside her aunt’s home near Hopwood Lane in Halifax when the accident happened at 5.30pm on Thursday.

Her family say the angelic-looking youngster was running to join her older sisters and cousins who were picking flowers on the other side of the street.

“We’re all in shock,” said her aunt Farzana Majid. “She was such a cheery little girl.”

Zoya’s mother, Rizvana Majid, had gone to visit her sister from her home just a couple of streets away with Zoya and her two older sisters.

She was upstairs and thought Zoya had followed her grandmother downstairs when she suddenly heard a scream.

“She just took her eye off Zoya for a second,” said Ms Majid. “Someone outside shouted: ‘Your child is in the road’. It all happened so quickly. We can’t believe it.”

Zoya’s devastated family say her cousins tried to shout out to her but could not stop her running out into the road.

Zoya was rushed to Leeds General Infirmary where desperate attempts were made to save her but she lost her fight for life on Friday morning.

An 18-year-old man was arrested by police in connection with the accident. He has been released on bail and inquiries into the incident are continuing.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the accident to contact Sergeant Garry Alderson in the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 01924 293047.
