Developer to resubmit criticised homes plan

A Developer has withdrawn plans to more than double the number of homes on a site near Beverley following opposition.

Lakeminster Park, on the outskirts of the town, already has 130 homes and its owner had wanted to build another 100, along with sites for another 81 static caravans and 32 touring caravans, on two fields totalling 28 acres.

The proposals had attracted objections from members of Beverley Town Council, who were concerned it blurred the development boundaries between the town and Woodmansey and from residents who had bought retirement homes there.

Planners were recommending refusal of the plans at a meeting on Thursday, saying the extension was “disproportionately large”.

Owner William Flannigan said he was hopeful the proposals would go through when plans are resubmitted.

He said officers has been to the development, and added: “They are happy with what we are doing and the parish council is too.

“With it being the gateway to Beverley for tourism it is perfect.”

The original plans were for two fields – one to the north called Palmers Field, which currently is open fields with farm buildings and smallholdings, some “unauthorised” temporary buildings and redundant machinery. The southern side is mostly marshy and contains two drains.

The proposals envisaged 100 park homes on land to the north, along with a balancing pond and landscaping. The southern field would have been used for touring and static caravans and would contain another balancing pond.

Commenting on the original plans, Coun Laurie Cross, who represents Minster and Woodmansey, said: “The extent of the urban sprawl in this area and the sort of quasi-type accommodation raises a lot of questions about the long-term intentions for this area.

“I see very little that Beverley and the community gains from this type of development.”
