Developer unveils plans for 10 new football pitches

PLANS have been unveiled to boost sports facilities in the industrial heart of Hull with the development of 10 all-weather football pitches in Bankside.

Ispace Investments and Goals Soccer Centres are seeking planning permission to create a multi-sports facility between Bankside and the River Hull, that would also feature a pavilion, floodlights, parking for 74 cars, bicycle and motorcycle parking, footpaths and landscaping on undeveloped land.

Although the facilities are primarily intended for evening use by local businesses, the developers also say they would be available for use by local residents, schools and community groups.

A report to Hull Council's Planning Committee tomorrow, which recommends the scheme's approval, said: "Whilst this is a commercial operation the applicants have stated that some of the pitches will be made available for approximately 60 per cent of the opening time for free or discounted use by registered community users, including local schools and defined community groups.

"Whilst this is not considered a necessity to allow the development to proceed it does support the council's aims of improving the health and well-being of its residents and encouraging accessibility to a range of sporting and recreation facilities, and could be required by a condition if members feel it is necessary to allow the development to go ahead."

Once completed the project would create more than 30 jobs - eight full-time and 25 part-time.

The pavilion would be rectangular with black metal panelling and a flat roof at two levels, while the pitches would be surrounded by a 16ft fence.

The report recommends that no development takes place until detailed landscaping plans have been approved.
