Dieting becomes a pet subject for owner and her overweight dog

DIETING dog Max has a spring in his step after losing over five kilogrammes in a weight loss challenge for podgy pets.

Max, a seven-year-old cross breed from Bramley in Leeds, was crowned the local winner of the Kilo Crunch Challenge run by Vets4Pets after he lost 11 per cent of his original body weight.

Owner Kathryn Boland, who has won a 50 diet pet food voucher, said: "I took Max to Vets4Pets as I thought he was starting to look overweight. It was beginning to affect him when I took him out for walks as he was getting very tired and couldn't walk far before needing to rest.

"I'm very pleased with Max's progress, he still has a bit of weight to lose but it's great that our efforts have been recognised, I'm very proud of him. When I first took Max into Vets4Pets in September he weighed 49.5kg (nearly eight stone) and he's already lost 5.5kg.

"We will be keeping up with his diet until he reaches his target weight of 40kg (just over six stone) and hopefully we can keep the weight off."

Helga Buxton, practice nurse at Vets4Pets in Bramley, said: "It's great to see owners taking the health of their pet seriously and Mrs Boland's willingness to make changes to Max's lifestyle was instrumental in his weight loss."
