‘Dig deep’ plea for army of youngsters to enjoy the precious gift of childhood

The Yorkshire Post’s Give Young Carers a Break appeal is raising money for the thousands of selfless children across the region who devote their time to looking after sick or disabled loved ones.

There are estimated to be as many as 85,000 young carers in Yorkshire who look after parents, guardians and siblings with conditions ranging from disabilities to mental illness and substance misuse problems.

This Christmas we are calling on readers and businesses to help give them the precious gift of childhood by digging deep and getting behind this worthy cause.

Money raised by the appeal, sponsored by R&R Ice Cream, will help fund special, fun-filled days out that will give young carers some much-deserved respite from their responsibilities.

CEO James Lambert said: “I am delighted R&R is sponsoring the Yorkshire Post’s charity appeal this year. Young carers are an excellent choice and as they give freely of their time to help others, I urge everyone to dig deep.”

As well as bidding in our charity auction there are two easy ways you can help.

To make a secure online donation using a credit or debit card, log on to www.justgiving.com/ypyoungcarers. If you are a UK taxpayer please take a moment to tick the Gift Aid box – it makes every £1 you give worth 25p more.

Again, if you are a UK taxpayer, please enclose a Gift Aid form, which can be downloaded from www.yorkshirepost.com or posted to you if you include your contact details with your donation.

The Yorkshire Post has teamed up with the region’s Community Foundation network to distribute funds where they are most needed.

Any groups that work with young carers in Yorkshire are asked to write to us before the end of the year about their work for a chance to share in the cash.
