Digital fast-lane transforms life for online Morley family

FOR the Morley family, the broadband revolution making its way across South Yorkshire could not come quickly enough.

Computer consultant Mike, 45, who lives with his wife Wendy and seven-year-old daughter in Dodworth, near Barnsley, says the family's computer use has been transformed since they signed up to the super-fast Digital Region service via local internet firm RipWire two months ago.

"Previously I was getting download speeds of 1.5mbs with BT," Mr Morley says.

"And I was one of the lucky ones – in this area most people are getting about 0.5mbs, which is just awful."

Such speeds are far below the national average of five Mbs, and severely hamper online activity for people living in the area.

But through Digital Region's new fibre-optic cables, the Morleys now enjoy speeds of 38mbs.

"It's brilliant," Mr Morley said. "It's much easier for me to work from home from time to time, and I do a lot of online gaming on my Xbox and Wii consoles which before just wouldn't have been possible.

"My wife uses the internet for eBay and my daughter uses it for her schoolwork.

"It's all so easy now – we can run more than one computer online at the same time. I'm well happy with it."
