Dim burglar photographs himself in BMW he’s just stolen

THIS was the moment a boastful burglar landed himself in prison – posing for a snap at the wheel of a rare BMW he had just helped to steal.

Ashley Jordan, 22, kept the incriminating photo on a memory stick which he tried to flush down the toilet when police raided his home.

Officers managed to recover the device before it was destroyed, however, and found images of Ashley smirking for the camera in two luxury cars stolen in the raid on a house in Leeds.

Jordan wept in the dock at Leeds Crown Court yesterday as he was jailed for two years.

He and members of his gang stole £26,000 of cars and valuables after targeting the house in Carrfield Road, Barwick in Elmet, Leeds, on March 19, last year.

The lock was removed to the door and keys to a BMW and Saab convertible were stolen as the couple who owned the property slept upstairs. They also stole cash, a 60-inch television, iPhones and other valuable electrical equipment.

Police went to Jordan’s house after he was spotted carrying the TV into his home.

Richard Canning, prosecuting, said images on the memory stick showed him with the two vehicles and he was immediately linked to the offence as the BMW, which has never been recovered, had a unique number plate.

Jordan told officers his friends had decided to carry out the burglary after they spent the evening in the pub. He claimed he did not take part in the raid but admitted helping to move stolen items afterwards.

Jordan, of Amberton Street, Gipton, Leeds, pleaded guilty to burglary and two offences of theft.

Kama Melly, for Jordan, said he was ashamed of himself and no longer had anything to do with those he committed the offence with. Miss Melly said Jordan now had a baby with his partner and was working hard in a new job.
