Director's thumbs up for fun toys

The National Railway Museum's seven-year-old Director of Fun, Sam Pointon, celebrates his first year in the job by testing out the latest in Japanese model rail and road design.

The youngster, from Leicester, had pledged to introduce more model railways at the museum in York when he was appointed last summer.

He was at the museum yesterday to try out free workshops dedicated to Tomica models, which combine road and rail with hi-tech trains speeding round a track and cars cruising along city streets.
