Disabled body in doubt after theft claim

A TREASURER of a disabled organisation at one of the country's top football clubs has been arrested by police on suspicion of theft.

A question mark is hanging over the Leeds United Disabled Organisation's (LUDO) future because of a lack of cash and unpaid bills.

It is understood Don Fletcher, of Castleford, and LUDO treasurer since 2006, went by prior arrangement to a police station on Wednesday and was formally arrested before being interviewed by detectives.

LUDO founder chairman Stuart Ramm said that unless alternative funding "possibly from new sponsors" was found, the work of the organisation in assisting disabled Leeds United fans to support their team could be in doubt.

Since the organisation's formation in 1992, facilities and opportunities for disabled people at the Elland Road ground have been greatly extended, with 180 wheelchair locations and facilities at the ground.

A spokeswoman for West Yorkshire Police said: "A 54-year-old man from Castleford has been arrested on suspicion of theft in connection with an on-going investigation into the theft of cash from the Leeds United Disabled Organisation.

"The man has been interviewed by officers and released on police bail pending further inquiries," the police spokeswoman added last night.
