Disabled woman’s 20-mile trip to exit station stranded

Introduced in 1995, the Disability Discrimination Act made it illegal for companies to discriminate against disabled people in areas such as transport, the provision of goods and services, education and employment.

Since then, the Act has been repealed and was replaced in October last year by the Equality Act.

Under the Equality Act, “service providers” must not treat disabled people less favourably or indirectly discriminate against them.

Legally, companies have to make “reasonable adjustments” for disabled people so that they are not put at a substantial disadvantage compared to non-disabled people.
