District has fewer homes left empty

FEWER council properties in Rotherham are standing empty than at this time last year, according to figures from 2010 Rotherham, the organisation that manages the town's council houses.

There are always some empty homes as they become vacant and are refurbished in preparation for new tenants moving in.

At the end of June this year, a total of 244 council homes in Rotherham were vacant, compared to 346 homes at the same time the previous year. The percentage of empty council housing stock in Rotherham has fallen from 1.60 to 1.17 over 12 months.

Empty homes manager at Rotherham 2010, Adrian Cheetham, said: "The team is rightly proud of what it has achieved for the town over the last year."
