Diversions as bridge shuts for repair

ONE of the main bridges in the centre of York is due to be closed overnight later this month for resurfacing work.

Motorists have been warned to find alternative routes when York Council begins work to repair Skeldergate Bridge over a two-week period from Monday, January 25. The resurfacing is due to be carried out between Monday and Friday from 7pm until 7am, and a signed diversion route for traffic will be in operation during these times.

Emergency vehicles will have access at all times. Bus services that will be affected by the works will be diverted and notices will be posted to direct passengers to the nearest available bus stops.

Outside the proposed working hours, the road will remain open.

A council spokeswoman said: "Everything reasonably possible will be done to keep disruption to a minimum, however motorists should expect some delays and plan their journey accordingly."
