Dixons to create 3,000 jobs in run-up to Christmas

PC World and Currys owner Dixons Retail is creating 3,000 temporary jobs in the run-up to Christmas, its busiest period.

It is recruiting for stores across the country as well as for back-office support roles at its distribution and delivery hub in Newark, Notts, and its call centre in Sheffield.

The group said it aimed to ensure that as many as possible of the best-performing temporary staff would be found permanent jobs. Last year 300 of 3,000 staff taken on during the Christmas period stayed afterwards.

Bridget Hutchinson, head of resourcing, said: “As we are preparing for another record-breaking Christmas period, we are excited to be looking for new colleagues to join us to help deliver a great customer experience.”

The announcement comes in the wake of seasonal recruitment drives from Amazon, which is looking for more than 15,000 workers, and Argos, which is hiring 10,000 people.
