DJ loses fingers and feet to septicaemia

A DJ has lost seven fingers and both feet after contracting blood poisoning.

Dean Smahon, 49, who lives in Leeds city centre, was only given a five per cent chance of survival after being diagnosed with septicaemia last year. He was put in an induced coma at Leeds General Infirmary and later had both legs amputated at the shins and lost two fingers.

Last month he was back in hospital again and had to have all the fingers on his right hand amputated.

He is determined not to let his disability hold him back and has set up a trust fund to help children with similar disabilities and to raise cash for good quality prosthetics.
