Do you remember Yorkshire woman’s Olympic gold glory?

OLYMPIC gold medal winner Anita Lonsbrough will be returning to her roots when she visits Huddersfield Town Hall, where she once worked as a treasurer’s office clerk.

Her achievement in the 1960 Olympics, when she took gold in the 200m breaststroke, is marked with a plaque in the Town Hall.

She is returning on Friday February 10 for a BBC series on Olympic greats.

In the run-up to the Olympics, Radio 5 Live is broadcasting a series of seven one-hour shows celebrating the achievements of every living British Summer Olympic gold medallist.

Each show will be broadcast on consecutive Sundays leading up to the Olympics.

They will be interviewing Anita Lonsbrough at Huddersfield Town Hall and are sending out an appeal to anyone who used to work with her or who was inspired by her.

Did you work with Anita during her time at Huddersfield Town Hall? Or perhaps you were in the crowd as she waved from the balcony at her civic reception? Anita also trained at Cambridge Road Baths, Huddersfield. Perhaps you remember her from there? If so the council would like to hear from you and there might be the chance to meet Anita on the day.
