Doctor suspended over abuse 'tirades' at staff

A FAMILY GP who belittled colleagues with a tirade of abuse over four years has been suspended for six months.

Dr Henry Hart, 45, frequently shouted at staff at Bayside Family Practice in Ulverston, Cumbria, between October 2004 and September 2008, when he quit.

A General Medical Council disciplinary panel found his behaviour was "rude, aggressive, unhelpful and unprofessional".

The hearing was told Dr Hart undermined colleagues, at one point denying computer access to them so they could check medical records and make appointments. He even tried to dictate to staff with whom they should have social contact.

The fitness to practise panel in Manchester ruled Dr Hart may have "deep-seated attitudinal problems" and needed time to address his behaviour issues.

However, it pointed out several factors mitigating his behaviour at Bayside.

The panel heard a practice manager, a receptionist, a fellow GP, an administrator and a practice nurse – all women – made complaints
