Dog eats man's ear after girlfriend bites if off

June Thompson, 44, attacked her former partner Trevor Wainman, 45, in a jealous rage after a barmaid bought him a drink for his birthday.

Thompson, of Hull, punched him in the face and gouged at his eye before lunging at him and biting off part of his left ear.

She then spat it out and her Yorkshire Terrier, Alfie, ate it. Mr Wainman has now been left with an unsightly gap near his ear lobe as surgeons were unable to operate without the missing piece.

The pair had been dating for 14 months and she had attacked him twice before, a court heard. The final incident happened when Mr Wainman had been catering for a party of 50 people at a pub in Hull.

Hull Crown Court heard that Thompson entered the pub and drank cocktails of pints of Guinness and shots of double Pernod and black.

She then became very loud and started swearing and was asked to leave by the landlord. During this time she saw a barmaid buy Trevor a drink for his birthday.

The couple left the pub, but seething with misplaced jealousy she began attacking him when they returned to his flat.

Mr Wainman called the police but before officers could reach the property, she punched him and gouged his eye before savagely taking a chunk out of his ear.

He was rushed to Hull Royal Infirmary but doctors were unable to do anything without the missing part of the ear.

Thompson, an unemployed mother-of-five, admitted wounding and will be sentenced next

month. She has previous convictions for assaulting a police officer and smearing excrement in a woman's face.

Recalling the attack, Mr Wainman - who is now separated from Thompson - said: "She lunged at me and sunk her teeth into my ear then spat it out.

"It was just jealousy. I have had a nibble on someone's ear before, but this is taking the Michael. It was just so savage.

"I really want to see justice done and would like to see her go to jail for the attack. She had been violent before, but never this bad."

Det Con Sam Chester of Humberside Police said: "The attack has left him with lasting injuries. He is lucky it has not been worse than it actually was with more damage done.

"These cases are treated very seriously. Domestic violence on men happens a lot and we would urge victims to have the courage to come forward to seek help."
