Dog walker injured in fall down manhole

A MAN has been taken to hospital after he fell down a manhole while walking his dog.

He was found after his pet returned home without him, West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) said.

He was lifted to safety using specialist equipment and treated for back pain.

A WMAS spokeswoman said paramedics were called to the incident on Dunsley Road in Wollaston, Stourbridge, in the West Midlands at around 3.40am yesterday.

An ambulance, a paramedic officer, the Hazardous Area Response Team and the Trust’s Medical Emergency Response Incident Team rapid response vehicle, carrying a critical 
care paramedic and trauma doctor, were dispatched to the scene.

The spokeswoman said: “On arrival at the scene, crews found a man who had fallen into a manhole.

“It was reported that the man was discovered after the dog he had been walking had returned home without its owner.”

The man, believed to be in his 30s, was treated at the scene for back pain and taken to Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley, for further treatment.
