Donovan to get lifetime achievement award

Sixties chart star Donovan – famed for hits such as Mellow Yellow and Sunshine Superman – is to be presented with a lifetime achievement award.

The flower power legend, who has worked with leading figures such as Pete Seeger, Joan Baez and Bob Dylan, will be honoured at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards next month.

Scottish-born Donovan Leitch had a run of hits in the late 1960s in the UK and the US, bringing folk to the fore. A friend of the Rolling Stones and the Beatles, he is also credited with teaching Sir Paul McCartney his finger-picking style and was sometimes seen as the UK's answer to Dylan.
