Doorstep attacker may have struck before

A DOORSTEP attacker who left a woman in her 60s with serious facial injuries could have struck several times in the same night, according to the detectives who are pursuing him.

The man carried out his assault at around 9pm on Tuesday after knocking on the woman's door in Union Road, Nether Edge, Sheffield and asking his victim for a light for his cigarette.

When the woman declined the man launched a vicious attack. He is described as white, aged 20-30, about 5ft 9in, of medium build with short brown hair. He was wearing casual clothing.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Officers are currently linking this incident to other suspicious incidents that occurred in that area during the same evening."
