Double-death driver walks free from court

A MAN responsible for causing the road crash which left two of his friends dead has walked free from court.

Christopher Deakin-Frith, 20, had held a driving licence for only four months when his Vauxhall Astra went out of control and hit a Mini travelling head-on in Beaver Hill Road, Handsworth, Sheffield Crown Court was told.

Lliam Oliver, 33, a father of four, and Mr Oliver's girlfriend Sarah Kate O'Melia, 23, died as a result of the crash on New Year's Eve, 2008.

Deakin-Frith, of Badger Close, Woodhouse, Sheffield, pleaded guilty to two charges of causing death by careless driving and was given a 12-month jail term, suspended for a year. He must carry out 275 hours' unpaid work and pay 1,000 court costs.
