From Downton to Doncaster as actor drops in for anniversary

DOWNTON Abbey actor Thomas Howes made a visit in his home town of Doncaster yesterday to mark World Mental Health Day.

Howes, who plays William in the hit ITV drama series, dropped into the Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH) Talking Shop on what was also the centre’s first anniversary.

Howes’s stepmother Diane Williams, who is the psychological therapies assistant director at RDaSH, said: “Thomas has a keen interest in mental health, having been exposed to discussions about mental health issues over the years.

“Both his father and I have significant experience of working in mental health services. He therefore took time out from filming to support and publicise the Talking Shop and World Mental Health Day.”

The Talking Shop in Hallgate is a drop-in advice and therapy centre which gives people the opportunity to gain information on mental health issues and therapies offered by the trust.

An initial consultation with a health workers is available at the shop if necessary, while reception staff and volunteers also help visitors to access information and use the computers.

Carers of people with mental health problems are also able to access information and support at the centre.
