Dragon's den draws delighted crowds

Ella Philliskirk with her grandfather Steve met a Chinese lion as visitors to the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds discovered treasures from Japan and China at the weekend.

They were given the chance to venture into a dragon’s den and enjoy a range of events designed to appeal to all the family.

Highlights included a traditional Chinese Lion Dance, arts and crafts activities where children could make dragon puppets and Samurai warrior helmets, Sushi making demonstrations and tastings, courtesy of the head chef at Yo Sushi in Leeds and Tai Chi demonstrations; origami workshops and themed interpretations, including arming a Samurai warrior.

Museum visitors also had the chance to enjoy special guided tours of the Armouries’ oriental collection, giving a unique overview of the great Asian civilisations, via their arms and armour.

Museum director Peter Armstrong said: “The cultures of Asia tend to be more diverse than those of Europe and the tours give a fascinating insight into the history of the East.” For more details of forthcoming events visit www.royalarmouries.org
