Drama as medics resuscitate heart attack victim nine times

Ray Lecomber was on holiday with wife Brenda when he suddenly passed out and his heart stopped.

The former electrical engineer has now thanked the ambulance crew who managed to respond successfully to the number of attacks he suffered.

Mr Lecomber had to be shocked back to life a repeatedly by Welsh Ambulance Service emergency staff and doctors using a defibrillator.

The ordeal unfolded as the couple were on holiday in Tenby, Wales, after Mr Lecomber had spent some time in the garden of the cottage where they were staying.

Mr Lecomber of Shelley, Huddersfield, said: ''I had been in the garden and felt fine, but a bit tired, and the last thing "I remember is settling down into a chair to read a magazine.

''Apparently Brenda couldn't wake me and as I was making some strange noises so she called an ambulance.

"It turned out I had narrowing of two of my main arteries and I was having real problems.

"They had to shock me nine times although I don't remember anything about it.

"I am just so thankful to everyone that helped me and now I am thankful for every day that I have.

"From the call handler who took Brenda's call to paramedics who treated me at home and apparently shocked me back to life and the hospital staff, they are all dedicated and marvellous professionals.''

After finding Mr Lecomber unresponsive and making strange snoring sounds, his wife called an ambulance crew and Tenby Ambulance Station paramedics Mark Rice and Nick Tebbutt answered her call, along with second-year paramedic degree student Keri Morgan.

Mr Tebbutt, a paramedic for 19 years, said he had never dealt with a patient quite like Mr Lecomber before.

Mr Lecomber added: "I have been given a second chance and I'm not about to waste it."
