A drink-driver duped the authorities into cleaning up her licence by emailing the licensing authority.

Kalpna Copeland posed as a court official to try to get her licence back, York Crown Court heard.

Rob Galley, prosecuting, said Copeland was banned for five years after being caught drink-driving for the third time, and jailed for 120 days. After release, the 37-year-old, who has an alcohol problem, sent two emails, purportedly from a court clerk, claiming the ban had been lifted.

A DVLA employee removed the ban from the records.

Copeland, of Carlton Fields, Carlton, near Selby, admitted two fraud offences. She was jailed for six months and the ban was restored to the records. John Dunning, mitigating, said his client never actually got her licence back.
