Mother-of-five Joanne Rothery, 33, had been on trial this week charged with causing the death by careless driving of Lily Davies, who was knocked down and killed in front of her mother while she walked to see her grandmother.

But yesterday, Judge Colin Burn directed the jury to return a not guilty verdict.

Lily was fatally injured when she was in collision with Ms Rothery’s Land Rover Freelander automatic in Beacon Road, Buttershaw, on June 12 last year.
