A MOTORIST is being prosecuted over a road crash which killed a North Yorkshire woman who was on holiday with her husband in Germany, solicitors revealed yesterday.

An inquest in Scarborough heard that Gillian Slone, 41, a probate clerk from Wharfedale in Filey, died while she was a pillion passenger on a motorcycle being ridden by her husband, Paul.

Mr Slone himself suffered serious injuries in the head-on crash with an Opel Astra near the town of Offenburg in June last year.

Solicitors from the Leeds-based Stewarts Law LLP, who are acting on behalf of Mr Slone, confirmed that German police have brought criminal charges against the Astra’s driver, and the matter is ongoing.

North Yorkshire East Coroner Michael Oakley recorded a narrative verdict after hearing that Mrs Slone had been thrown on to a nearby rail track following the collision with the car, which was being driven on the wrong side of the road.

Solicitors from Stewarts Law LLP are pursuing a claim for compensation against the car driver’s insurance company.

After the hearing, Mr Slone, 44, who is still facing a lengthy rehabilitation from his injuries, said: “Gillian was a loving and caring wife who I miss every single day.

“We had been enjoying a wonderful holiday together when the accident happened and I feel my life can never be the same again.”
