Driver smashes into Leeds takeaway

THE DRIVER of a car which smashed into the front of a Leeds Chinese takeaway in the early hours on Saturday has been taken to hospital.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said they were called to reports that a car had smashed into a building on Tong Road, Armley, close to the junction of Wortley Road, shortly after 5am.

The driver was trapped in the vehicle.

A spokeswoman for West Yorkshire Police said the car had smashed into the China Town takeaway, which was extensively damaged.

She said they the driver, a 34-year-old man, had been released from the car and taken to Leeds General Infirmary.

While there were no reported injuries, it is believed the driver suffered a “medical episode” leading to the crash, she added.

The car was removed and the take away shop front boarded up shortly before 9am.

The fire service said there was no one inside the shop at the time of the incident.
