Drivers warned to allow extra time as city roadworks begin

MOTORISTS are being warned to expect delays as resurfacing works are carried out on roads in parts of York next week.

From Monday the council will carry out works on a number of streets and motorists are being warned to allow extra time for their journey and expect some delays.

Works will take part on the following streets – B1228 Main Street in Elvington, Netherwindings and West Nooks in Haxby, Melcombe Avenue, Chipstead Walk and Portisham Place in Strensall, Longwood Road and Rivelin Way in Clifton Moor and The Village/Sandy Lane in Stockton on the Forest.

A spokeswoman for York Council last night warned motorists to expect delays.

“As with any construction work, there is likely to be a certain amount of disruption and inconvenience and everything reasonably possible will be done to keep this to a minimum. However, motorists should expect some delays and plan their journey accordingly,” she said.

The programme of works is scheduled to take two weeks to complete, working Monday to Friday between 8am and 5pm. However, Main Street in Elvington will be restricted between 9.15am and 4pm.

The works will require a temporary road closure on Wednesday next week in Main Street, Elvington.

There will be no access for vehicles to this closed section of road during the times listed except in emergencies. There will also be no on-street parking during these times and if members of the public require vehicle access they must inform the traffic management operatives on site and follow any instructions issued.

Outside the proposed working hours the road will remain open as usual with no restrictions imposed.

The work will allow York Council to put down a new skid resistant overlay during the works.
