Drivers warned to expect delays as roadworks begin

DELAYS are predicted for drivers in Sheffield as a swathe of roadworks gets under way this month.

An eight-week project has begun on London Road to provide new crossings at the junctions with Asline Road and Batt Street. As a result, there will be some Sunday road closures.

From 6pm that night until 2pm the following day the road will be closed between Halsall Avenue and Bowden Wood Crescent.

The following weekend there will be lane closures from 6pm until midnight on the Saturday and between 8am and 4pm on the Sunday.

There may also be some lane closures during the week.

A spokesman for Sheffield Council said: “A scheme initiated by the South East Community Assembly begins on Monday, February 21 on Birley Spa Lane to ‘harden’ the grass verge with truck paving that allows the grass to grow through.

“These works are expected to take three weeks to complete. A new zebra crossing is to be installed near Greenhill Primary School on Greenhill Road. The five-week scheme is due to start on Monday, February 21 and the work will be carried out under temporary signals.
