Drivers warned over city roadworks

DRIVERS should allow extra time for their journeys as three lots of roadworks get under way in Sheffield on Monday.

The first scheme, which involves putting in new street lighting, pedestrian islands and signs on London Road and Abbeydale Rod, will take around seven weeks to complete. Some work on footpaths means it will be necessary to close Alderson Road for a week, from Monday.

The second scheme involves installing a new zebra crossing and street lighting in Woodhouse.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place during the month-long roadworks near the library at the junction of Tannery Street and Skelton Lane.

Finally, roadworks will also get underway on White Lane in south-east Sheffield to "harden" the grass verge with truck paving that allows grass to grow through.

The verges will be coned off and fenced off for three weeks the works are expected to take.

A spokesman for Sheffield Council said: "The works have been planned to minimise any disruption and will be completed as quickly as possible, but as always the schedule is subject to weather conditions."
