Driving ban for 105mph England defender King

Tottenham and England footballer Ledley King was yesterday banned from driving for 56 days after being clocked at more than 100mph in a black Mercedes CL.

King, 30, of Cuffley, Hertfordshire, had previously admitted speeding on the A14 near Newmarket, Suffolk, in June, and was sentenced when he appeared before magistrates in Sudbury.

He had argued that he had been travelling at no more than 95mph – not the 105mph recorded by a policeman using a laser speed gun.

But at a hearing last month magistrates ruled that the footballer had been correctly clocked at 105mph.

Magistrates fined King 800 and ordered him to pay 250 costs.
