Drug dealer given six months to repay £65,000

A DRUG dealer serving a seven-year prison sentence must repay £65,000 of his ill-gotten gains or face a further 20 months behind bars.

Lee Duffield, 29, of Allerton Bywater, Leeds, was jailed in August last year for his part in a major cocaine supply conspiracy.

He was caught after an operation by West Yorkshire Police's crime division which, over 15 months, seized cocaine with a street value of 500,000.

Duffield must pay 65,000 within six months after a judge at Leeds Crown Court made a confiscation order in the case.

Detective Chief Inspector Fran Naughton, who investigates economic crime, said offenders who failed to pay on time remained in debt even after their jail sentences had been extended.

"In order to raise the funds, assets such as cars, houses and jewellery can be sold.

"Some of the money raised is then given back to local communities and to also fund other police operations."
