Drug supplier jailed after girl's death

A GIRLS' night out ended in tragedy when a reveller died from a mixture of alcohol and the class C drug ketamine.

Rachel Kaye, 24, of Bradford, had been out clubbing in Halifax with friends but ended up at a party at the home of Christopher Pickard a year ago.

Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday that Pickard, 25, had earlier bought some ketamine in Leeds and it was laid out in the kitchen for anyone who wanted it.

The court heard Miss Kaye, who had used ketamine before, took some of the substance but was later found slouched in a chair. Friends called an ambulance but she was pronounced dead later that morning.

A post-mortem examination revealed that Miss Kaye, of Mickledore Ridge, Horton Bank Top, had probably died as a result of a combination of the ketamine and alcohol.

Yesterday Pickard, of Thirkleby Royd, Bradford, was jailed for eight months after he admitted supplying the drug to Miss Kaye.
