Drunk man rescued after following a horse to find his way home while lost in a Yorkshire forest

The bizarre incident happened last night in Guisborough Forest, which is part of the North York Moors National Park.

Ancient skills on show at Guisborough Forest FestivalCleveland Mountain Rescue Team were asked to help Cleveland Police search for the man, who had injured his ankle, at 6am this morning.

The drinker's predicament led to 12 of the team's volunteers being called out to help in the rescue, with others on standby for around two hours.

A statement on the Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team's Facebook page said:

"The team was called out at 6am this morning by Cleveland Police to search Guisborough woods for a male who had found himself somewhat worse for wear overnight and was lost and had apparently hurt his ankle. The male was eventually located having used a somewhat dubious navigation method, including following a horse, and returned home! He was visited by team members and by Northeast Ambulance Service for a check over. Twelve volunteer team members plus more on standby for approx two hours"
