Prince Andrew, who is UK Ambassador for Trade and Industry, said: "There are many, many other learning opportunities at a place like this.

"I would just ask that you take up those opportunities and use them, because when you actually finally leave university, when you get out there into the real world, you will discover that the broader and greater your knowledge, the more advantageous it will be to you in your careers in the future.

"I wish you all of the success in your studies and I hope I will have the opportunity to come back and see this university continue to grow."

The Prince later presented awards to people taking part in the Duke of York's Community Initiative, which recognises community-spirited work in Yorkshire.
