Early behaviour lasts says study

Children's behaviour at ages as young as three can show if they are likely to grow into adults beset by problems such as ill-health, debt, drug addiction and criminality, say researchers.

A long-term study of more than 1,000 children in New Zealand found those with signs of impulsiveness and low self-control were most at risk of running into trouble as teenagers.

At 32, they had an increased risk of ill health and were more likely to get into debt, have drink and drug problems and criminal records.
