Early hours Leeds city centre rescue of woman in the Aire

A woman was rescued from the River Aire in Leeds city centre after being spotted on CCTV in the early hours of this morning.

Firefighters were called to the scene off Pitfall Street shortly before 3am and found a woman to be knee-deep in water at the rear of the New Penny pub.

She was rescued using a ladder that was extended down the river banking.

Specialist water rescue officers were sent to carry out the rescue, as well as fire crews from Leeds city centre, Rothwell, Ossett and Bingley.
