Early start for Olympic torch relay in Leeds city centre LATEST

Hundreds made an early start this morning to gather outside Leeds Town Hall and see the Olympic torch set off on its journey through Leeds.

Crowds started to gather at 6.30am and listened to music from the Leeds Youth Orchestra before the torch emerged onto the town hall steps just after 7am.

The torch then made its way through the city centre, taking in The Headrow, Millennium Square, Briggate and County Arcade before heading to the Royal Armouries.

It was also due to pass over Leeds Bridge before heading to Hunslet, stopping at the John Charles Centre for Sport for a lap of the track.

The iconic symbol of the Games is then due to pass through Beeston and Leeds United’s Elland Road before heading through Morley and out of the city.

From Leeds, it will travel to Batley, Dewsbury and to Wakefield.
