An inner-city nursery in Bradford has been given a glowing report by education watchdogs.

Ofsted inspectors rated Midland Road Nursery School, in Bateman Street, Manningham, as outstanding and said children’s well-being and happiness were at its core.

In a letter to the children one inspector said she agreed with parents and carers.

She said the nursery was “brilliant”, and praised the “good listening” and “good sharing” of the youngsters.

Children were also found to be eager, independent and imaginative learners who included everybody in their fun, and a creative mix of activities and visitors helped to boost children’s education and provided children with a “thirst for learning”.

Teaching, provision for early years foundation stage, leadership and management, the effectiveness of the governing body, safeguarding children, links with the wider community, and children’s personal development and behaviour were also among the many other aspects listed as outstanding.

Coun Michael Kelly, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Services to Children and Young People, said: “Everyone connected to Midland Road Nursery School should be extremely proud of this Ofsted report – it is exemplary.

“The nursery excels in all areas and, from reading the inspector’s letter, it is apparent that she really enjoyed her visit and recognised the demands on staff to run a centre which caters for babies, toddlers and older children.

“Well done to staff, parents, children, governors and the school community.”

Headteacher Jo Dix said: “I am delighted with the outcome of the recent Ofsted report because it reflects the dedication and commitment of all staff over the last few years.

“It’s our second outstanding Ofsted and it is particularly rewarding for myself as headteacher because I’m retiring at the end of the spring term.

“In the words of the inspector, the school is ‘brilliant’ and I will be very sad to leave it.”
