AN award-winning college student has gone from training to running her own business in a matter of months

Laura Hepworth, 19, left Craven College in Skipton in May this year having a achieved level three qualifications in beauty therapy and nail services.

She was working part time at the Dolled Up salon in Keighley and when a new owner bought it she was given the chance to become a partner in the business and to run the salon herself.

Laura said: “I love running my own business. It is very hard but I am determined. I sometimes do 56 hours a week but it is worth it and I have built up the number of clients and it’s doing really well.

“I loved it at college – there were opportunities to do other things on top of the main course and get more qualifications which I did.

“The staff were lovely, fun and so helpful. I also used the enterprise service at the college, which is open to all current and former students, to get invaluable advice on tax and employing staff.”

While studying at Craven College, Laura built up her own clients and also opted to take on extra qualifications.

She also won the college’s beauty therapist of the year award and appears in a college video promoting its enterprise service. A spokeswoman for Craven College said: “She was nominated by her division manager because she has taken every opportunity that has been presented to her.”
