In the first, at 5pm, a man called at the home of an 88-year-old woman on Ing Lane in Newsome, telling her that he had cleaned her windows.

When the woman opened the door, the man entered the house and went straight to her living room where he took cash from her purse.

The man then went to a bedroom but was followed by the woman. He then left the property.

At 8pm, a separate man called at the home of a 91-year-old man in Richmond Avenue in Fartown.

The caller told the pensioner he was from the water board and needed to get into the house.

The caller then searched the property – and managed to steal a large amount of money from a safe before leaving.

Neither victim was harmed.

West Yorkshire Police have asked anyone with any information to contact Detective Constable Shaun Topham at Huddersfield CID on 01484 436548.
