Elderly woman dies and man in critical condition after crash near York

An elderly passenger died and a man is in a critical condition after the car they were travelling in crashed near York.

Police said a white Toyota Aygo and a blue Volkswagen Tiguan were involved in a collision on Corban Lane, between Wigginton and Shipton-by-Beningborough, at about 12.30pm on Saturday.

An 84-year-old woman, a passenger in the Aygo, was taken to hospital where she later died.

The driver, an 89-year-old man from York, is also in a critical condition in hospital after the crash, North Yorkshire Police said.

The occupants inside the Tiguan, a man, 67, woman 65, and two young children, suffered minor injuries.

Police have today appealed for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.
